U God, Naylor.

Good old Doug Naylor has been interviewed by top movie site Film Force. He mostly talks about The Movie, but also covers such diverse subjects as the DVDs, the possibility of a new series, Red Dwarf USA and the Duke Of Manchester.

Doug Naylor is an anguished man. He has written a screenplay which is generally considered to be pretty top-notch, and he can't get it made. All he needs is some money. In the interview, he jokes about setting up a website for people to send in donations. I would happily contribute, man. Especially after reading tit-bits about the script such as "the best jokes just won't die, and even when I cut them, people scream and shout, "No! That's got to go back in!" There's one sequence that people have gone, "No no no, it slows the story down," and I keep cutting that particular sequence – and people just won't allow it to be cut, because it appears to be universally loved".

This is exciting stuff. All we need is money, and Doug mentions that it is possible (though highly unlikely) that this money could show up in time for shooting to start within the next six months. But at least we know that things are happening. Doug's doing his job, he's still in love with the project, he wants it to be perfect and he's had time for rewrite after rewrite. Plus, if the movie isn't made, we'd get a lovely book out of it.
