EMPIRE SMELLS

Ah. I like it when people send us e-mails. It means I have to do bugger all and still get a good news story. (It also means we get to report on stuff that we don't find out about; so please, contact us if you spot anything interesting.) Anyway: many thanks for the following, guys.

First off, Big Blake has sent us a review of the IV DVD from the March issue of Empire. Written by Chris Hewitt, it is frankly RUBBISH:

Red Dwarf Series 4
1991, Cert. 12, BBC Worldwide.
Out: February 16. Buy: DVD, £19.99
Cherish this DVD, for Red Dwarf virtually pole-vaulted the shark immediately after this fourth series. Writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor have fun with sci-fi conventions in a number of inventive episodes, including the introduction of Chris Barrie's Ace Rimmer ("Smoke me a kipper, I'll be home for breakfast"), but the real jewel in the crown is Robert Llewellyn's preening android, Kryten, who gets all the best lines and plots. Without a doubt, Red Dwarf's greatest smegging series.
DVD extras: Auntie Beeb's commitment to excellent extras continues, with commentaries, documentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes and Ainsley Harriott in Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg. Magnificent. CH
Show: 4 stars
Extras: 5 stars

Quite apart from misquoting one of the most famous lines ever in Dwarf, if anyone can pinpoint exactly why Holoship and the rest of V is crap, we'd love to know. I would respectfully suggest that Chris GETS SOME BETTER OPINIONS.

Meanwhile, here is a bit of juicy hearsay for you. Ben Nelson has got in touch with us to say that his friend went to one of the Incompetence signing events, and asked Rob about the DVDs. He replied with the following: "They have been very successful. If I was approached I would like to be involved in the next two."

Yeah, yeah, I know. It doesn't prove a thing. It's a nice thought though, isn't it?
