Ian's Newsround - 15/01/05
Sorry I'm late. I've been too busy thinking about my entires for the film competition. Is it just a way to bulk up the features list for little or no money, and getting more fans on the disc so they can pester their friends and family to buy them? Well, yes. But it could be very good. OK, so the bulk of fan fiction is shite, but I know a lot of very talented Dwarf. The very best could produce excellent things that otherwise wouldn't be made widely available. Far better than the fan commentary, and potentially better than things like A Life In Lam and the musical featurettes. Well, you'd fucking hope so.
Of course, one of the places will most certainly go to Red Dwarf: The Other Movie, but Teh Ellards has said on the Webboard that there'll probably be three films on each DVD. The wheels are already in motion for our efforts; keep an eye on the Observation Dome to be kept abreast. Also, Phil Reed's on the lookout for voice artists for his animation, so let him know if you're Alistair McGowan, or something.
The Movie, then. Well, the page has changed, so they've not forgotten about it completely. That's about the only positive I can take out of this. Previously, there's always been a rough date, which suggested to us that something was happening. Now, there's nothing. Just "oh, we'll be doing some pre-production, then some production, at some point". Which suggests to me that there's nothing on the horizon. Not a fucking sausage. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.
In other news, the cast roundup has been updated, with news on Bobby and Norm. Scrapheap Challenge - The Scrappy Races is currently being shown on Channel 4 on Sundays. And it's absolutely guaranteed that I'll forget to watch every single one. What about Big Brother, though, eh? And Norman has a new official message board. It's thriving so far, with a whopping nine posts. Niiiiiiiiine?
Finally on TOS this week, and excellent new Down Time article, all about Series V. Would have been a bit more timely in November, but still. I love these articles - they give Ellard the chance to use TOS as a ridiculously well-informed fansite. One point - the only thing 'shocker' about the ending of VIII was that it was so terrible. And the article contains one of my pet pedant powers - the use of "literally" in a metaphor. What, Sigmund Freud literally wrote a book on Rimmer? Did he? Did he really? Hmm?
I suppose it's appropriate for us to mention this. When's someone going to send a probe to Ganymede, then?
