Disc Two Menu Problems?

A number have people have reported problems with the bonus material menu on Disc Two of the Series III DVD. Either the menu resets each time the arrow moves, or the arrow just fails to move at all. In response to this, Associate Producer Andrew Ellard has requested those affected report their problems, on this thread of the WebBoard. (You'll need to log in to read the thread.)

They need to know the make of your player, the model number and the nature of your problem. The BBC are currently investigating, and updates will be posted on the official site. Everyone experiencing these problems should report them, so that they don't happen again. Registering for the WebBoard is free, and takes about a minute of your time. Go on, chaps.

I'll do it the second I have a problem with it, though considering I don't have it and won't for a while, I can't ... so .... :\

You know whenever I play it on PS2, it doesn't repeat itself! However it is a struggle to move the arrow.

Mines a Pacific P-DVD 1000.

The main obvious problem is that the chapter resets every time you press the arrow, meaning you cant move the arrow at all, only select the different features by pressing the numbers on your remote which is quite annoying.

Have you posted that on the official site, Birty? If not, I'll do it for you.

I thought it was just a coding mistake - the background loop restarting each time something is selected, not any sort of fault. I didn't realise people were having major problems with it.

No-one's yet commented on how they've bollocksed up the 'back' and 'next' options on the scene selection menus, though.

They work fine for me. What probs are you having, Daz?

Posted by Ian Symes at November 5, 2003 09:57 PM

Oh, they just seem really mixed up, like The Last Day has a 'Next' option, which when selected takes you to another Last Day menu. And when you press 'Next' on the Timeslides one, it takes you to the Timeslides one again, but with no 'Next' and the only choices being 'Back' and 'Menu'.

It just seems like an encoding cock-up to me.

There's two menus for each episode, man. Four chapters on each = eight chapters in total.

Kryten there, from TV's 'The Red Dwarfs'.

That re-starting menu loop thing makes it impossible to see the animated Rob/Doug/Ed thing. Shitty shitty shitty.

I hope they're going to release a fixed version of this.

For free. And free cake too! I wan't free cake!

They should release a patch on the internets, like they do with Championship Manager. III.01, they could call it.

Got my disc about an hour ago, and yep, it resets everytime you try access anything on my player (Toshiba). On my PC you can access anything by clicking but the skutter won't tell you what it is first!

Posted by Brad at November 6, 2003 07:01 PM

It's really annoying isnt it?

And yes, I posted it on the offical thread already, I guess I will never see that precious easter egg now :'(

Posted by Birty2k at November 7, 2003 12:25 AM

Ian, could you tell us what the chapter number is for the animated easter egg? Then, most folk can access it manually with their remotes.

Posted by Darrell Jones at November 7, 2003 01:49 AM

Good plan. That's the best plan yet. The two easter eggs are the last two tracks on the disc.

Posted by Ian Symes at November 7, 2003 01:35 PM

Mine's been disabled for some reason.

Posted by Joey at November 7, 2003 07:48 PM

It's disabled on mine, but I got around it with cheating.

Posted by Ian Symes at November 7, 2003 08:03 PM

Good old 'PBC On/Off' button, eh!

Posted by Darrell Jones at November 7, 2003 08:38 PM

Ahh so that's what that's for!

Posted by Joey at November 10, 2003 08:01 AM

How do I access the Easter Egg(s) then? What is this PBC thing?
