Curry and Clips
Simon Bromley from BTLi has posted to say that a programme called Joy of Curry, to be shown on Wednesday 29th October on BBC TWO, will feature clips from Red Dwarf.
The programme is the first of three programmes from "The Asian Season" (because the entire range of cultures from a very large continent can be neatly summed up with the cuisine from one country). It will feature "classic comedy clips and contributions from celebrity curry fans". That's sure to be good. No word on what the Red Dwarf ones will be - the vindaloo monster from DNA, the beginning of Tikka To Ride and the weak ending to Beyond A Joke look like the favourites, though.
The programme is on Wednesday night from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. We'll be covering the Red Dwarf bits of it, obviously.

Ah, good. I heard about this but I didn't realise it was featuring Dwarf in any way. One for the Notable Mentions, I think.

Well this is off topic, but look what I've just found on the online Radio Times listing for Red Dwarf today. Anybody care to guess what the hell the writer is talking about in the second paragraph?
Episode
Polymorph
Review
A shape-changing monster makes its way aboard Red Dwarf in Polymorph, this repeat from the hit science fiction comedy's third season in 1989.
Unfortunately, Cat has also released something just about as deadly: a peculiar byproduct of his cooking. So while he's being chased around by that, the monster pursues the rest.
This screening is of the remastered version that has new effects and also a slightly changed ending as the fate of the monster is revealed in a quick series of captions.
Cast List
Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules

HOORAY!! It ISN'T the remastered version actually, Mr Reviewer, thankyou very much.
Posted by Screening Tonight at October 26, 2003 11:04 PM
It's not re-mastered, either.
Note that it said "this week's Red Dwarf", as opposed to "this Red Dwarf", as per the video version. I hope the broadcast one is used on the DVD.

Yeah, I hope we get the bradcast version too. Somehow I don't think we will.
And fuck knows what that Radio Times writer is talking about!
Posted by Cappsy at October 26, 2003 11:27 PM
It's not a major thing, really. One word doesn't make or break a DVD. It'll be interesting, anyway. They didn't remove "week's" from Nanarchy, you know.

I think we may well get the broadcast version on the DVD - after all, we got the broadcast version of Parallel Universe without the added episode title at the start, unlike the video version.
And that RT capsule writer should be shot.
Nice still advertising the first two RD DVDs at the end of Polymorph tonight - I don't suppose anyone can video capture it?

"Somehow I don't think we will."
Why, Cappsy, if that version exists?
PS - Haha Ian, I beat you in the competition of being the first to say it wasn't the remastered version. I really am great, you'll notice.

I may have to resign over this matter, Mr. Tonight.
Posted by Ian Symes at October 26, 2003 11:40 PM
Doesn't have to be tonight, Mr. But certainly in the end would be greatly appreciated.

I am not to watch BBC2's series 3 repeats.
I am not to watch BBC2's series 3 repeats.
I am going to watch BBC2's series 3 repeats.
Self-control is quite hard...

I couldn't help watching Polymorph tonight either. But the episodes are so good you can watch them time and time and time and time and time again anyway.
Posted by John Hoare at October 27, 2003 01:31 AM
Indeed, why bother buying the DVDs to keep otherwise?

They used the opening of Tikka To Ride, although it just seemed to be randomly shoved in the section about lager, no description or explaination of Red Dwarf.

And a bloody awful clip it was too. I enjoy the middle section of Tikka To Ride quite a bit, but that Kryten/Lister conversation about the missing curry is just embarassing.
They could have had a section from the opening of Psirens, during the bit of the show that talked about eating last night's curry...
