Marooned without the III DVD?
My god. How awful. Anyway, it's exactly a week until the Series III DVD is released - so we thought we'd do a few more ramblings to keep you going until then. So you won't be 'Backwards' about knowing all about the release! I'll stop now.
I have no idea why we've gone to all this trouble when the article will only be useful for a week, but never mind. Now, all together - pray that Play have got their act together and will deliver the DVD on Saturday. We've just been planning our coverage of all this, so expect lots of rather nice articles when it's released...

I can't wait for the DVD. I MUST HAVE IT NOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at October 27, 2003 10:42 AM
Indeed. Whilst watching Polymorph yesterday I was just struck by how amazing Series III is on nearly every level. And I suspect I may just explode when I see the raw model footage.
Just think - if this is what the III and IV DVDs contain with regards to extras, imagine what the V and VI DVDs will have. I'm personally greatly looking forward to the VI DVD - it's probably my favourite series (at the moment, anyway).

Here's me: If I'm going to buy any of these confounded things it'll be series III-VI, and that is all. I may wait until they're bargained down by sales pitches. I may wait further until the box set option, that's certainly the only scenario that will cause me to end up with VII-VIII, and I'll only do that if the price is cheaper than for the III-VI discs individually. Some time I'll find all 8 series in a box set for 40 nearby, and I'm happy to wait until then - and to be honest if I'm not interested anymore after all that time then I win because I won't have wasted money on anything that I've grown out of.
Some other things I didn't buy lately (because of predicted high out-growing pace):
Parcel Wakinson's Weird Weekends Volumes 1 & 2 (for a tenner each);
Drive "Bye" Hits from the 40s (Lovin' It & 7 Other Ways to Shoe A Horse & Bed Combo Kit) for a mere 2.99 throwaway from that cart in Westminster (or near it I think);
Gropestone's Harbington Warts 'N' All (that would have cost a fucking fortune).
And so on. Or (to coin a sage): "Thus I win"

Oi you! May I ask what's wrong with the first two series?!
Posted by Darrell Jones at October 27, 2003 01:41 PM
Well they're very grey, aren't they?
Posted by Caught in a Dambuster Re-enactment from 1972 etc at October 27, 2003 02:17 PM
And that automatically negates the fact that they're two superb series does it?
I'm off to violently hit my head against the wall.
Posted by Darrell Jones at October 27, 2003 03:06 PM
Yes ringworm, that is true. And unless the plaster is yours and doesn't mind being cracked, could you please refrain from doing that, thanks.
Posted by Caught in a Dambuster Re-enactment from 1972 etc at October 27, 2003 03:23 PM
You would think a Red Dwarf fan site would be an odd place for you to visit, Dambuster (or whoever the hell you are).
Posted by Cappsy at October 27, 2003 03:30 PM
He's beyond belief.
Posted by Darrell Jones at October 27, 2003 04:22 PM
Possibly due to everything Dambusterish being Air Force Grey, there may be a deep seated reason for
this odd Anti Grey Posting, still each to their own...I personally want them all and indeed sit here growing moister by the moment in Anticipation of series III ariving...

On the day the DVD is released my half term is sadly over and it's back to school for me. I haven't had a day off in 4 whole smegging years and my brothers and sisters had a week off last week. I think I derserve a day off, don't you? That's how dedicated I am. So much do I love Red Dwarf...
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at October 27, 2003 08:52 PM
I don't start uni 'til 1pm Monday. Nothing can keep me away.
Posted by Joey at October 28, 2003 10:31 AM
I've booked a fornight off work, starting from this Friday. Thus I win.
Posted by Ian Symes at October 28, 2003 08:49 PM
Self, self, self, self, self!
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at October 29, 2003 12:18 AM
To pass the time I've been watching the Red Dwarf III videos over and over...
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at October 31, 2003 08:42 PM
I was doing that today. It'll be lovely to have the music at the start of 'Backwards' in fantastic quality.
And:
"Bye suckers! You lost your bike!"
"Apparantly, the gentlemen's name is Rimmer, sir."
"That's lovely, thank you very much!"
Posted by John Hoare at October 31, 2003 08:52 PM
You know I was talking to my school conselour the other week and she had an interesting tale - she's been to the recording of 'Marooned'! She remembers four takes had to be done of Craig eating that dogfood!
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at October 31, 2003 09:49 PM
It's Saturday and the Red Dwarf Shop STILL hasn't shipped the DVD to me, so how it's gonna get here for Monday is beyond me!
Posted by Bob the Skutter at November 1, 2003 11:35 AM
Ian has his from Play!
Posted by John Hoare at November 1, 2003 11:54 AM
I've got mine. Watched all the extras except DJ Diary and the documentary.
Searched systematically for the Easter Eggs and nada so far. I think I'm going to need some help on that. The chapter/title selection facility seems to have been disabled; unlike in previous DVDs where it has been the easy way to find them.
Posted by Joey at November 1, 2003 12:30 PM
Oh yes can I also express my irritation at the replaying of the menu everytime the cursor is moved in the Extra's menu?
Thank you.
I sound like I hate the DVD which is far from it. I'm just a perfectionist.
Posted by Joey at November 1, 2003 12:31 PM
I think the Red Dwarf Shop has once again, shot it self in the foot, But I suppose we will see Monday....At least the 'Last Day' DVD was in at Woolies at 8.30 this morning, so that will keep me going til the biggie arrives (sometime)..
Posted by Cpt-D at November 1, 2003 12:36 PM
I've got the DVD. I've found all the Easter Eggs. I'm just about visible in Hattie's DJ Diary.
In conclusion, I win.
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 05:13 PM
When can we expect the Big Report Ian ?
Posted by Cpt-D at November 1, 2003 05:56 PM
Tomorow. I'm having a big note-jotting session this evening, then I shall be writing like a demon all day tomorow.
I could get it up tonight, but I want it to be conclusive. For the first two DVDs, I had to rush so I could get them up on the day of release. Consequently, there were plenty of ommissions and inaccuracies (see the massive footnotes). Thanks to Play, I can take my time and still get it up before most people even get the DVD!
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 06:15 PM
Yes, I'd love to hear what you have to say about the deleted scenes and your commentry corrections, of course ;-).
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at November 1, 2003 06:18 PM
Why is it important to get the review up before anyone else has got/seen the DVD?
Posted by Polymorph III at November 1, 2003 07:33 PM
Because I'm a cunt.
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 08:00 PM
"Oh yes can I also express my irritation at the replaying of the menu everytime the cursor is moved in the Extra's menu?" - Joey
I get that too. Appently it's not meant to do that. i think we have faulty disks.
Posted by Cappsy at November 1, 2003 09:52 PM
From what I've heard, the discs work fine in proper DVD players (that is, ones that are attached to a telly), but it buggers up in computers. Bah!
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 10:17 PM
Nope, this is a problem experienced on THREE different DVD players. THe bastard thing is faulty and i'm pissed off! I can still watch everything but its still VERY annoying.
I'm returning my copy to play and getting one from tescos on monday.
Posted by Cappsy at November 1, 2003 10:33 PM
Oh, man. I don't think it's individual discs - Joey could play hers fine on one player, but it cocked up on the other. This is a weird fault. How old are your players? Mine is fairly archaic, but it plays fine.
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 11:03 PM
All three are pretty cheap ones, but I can't see how the fault can be on three different machines, (four if you count my pc)
Anyway, we'll see how the replacment goes :) Oh and I have found the Animation and Starbug toy egss, any chance of sharing the third?
Also, what ddi you reckon to the Marooned one? I thought it was very classy indeed.
Posted by Cappsy at November 1, 2003 11:08 PM
It could easily be that the DVD plays fine on some DVD player models and not others. Lots of DVDs have this problem. I think it must be the whole batch that has this problem...
Posted by John Hoare at November 1, 2003 11:10 PM
Yeah, lets hope to god that its not the case with all the series III dvd's. I am seriosu when i say i'll fork out money for a good one in that instance.
Posted by Cappsy at November 1, 2003 11:12 PM
I shall reveal all re. the Easter Eggs in my review tomorow...
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 11:13 PM
You can have mine for a million pounds, Cappsy.
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 11:14 PM
nah, i''l chance it with tesco's. But thank's for the offer, mate. Allthough I am going to be paying high street prices, will probably not be far off a million pounds.
Posted by Cappsy at November 1, 2003 11:22 PM
Can't wait for the review, Ian ;-).
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at November 1, 2003 11:37 PM
Oh, man. There's pressure on now!
Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 11:52 PM
Well, you can't win all of them, Ian.
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at November 1, 2003 11:55 PM
Yes, I can.
Posted by Ian Symes at November 2, 2003 12:00 AM
Prove it.
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at November 2, 2003 12:13 AM
In my newer player it takes a while for the cursor to move but the menu keeps playing in a loop; on the older one (our main one) it just replays every time I move the cursor. There's only so many times you can hear 'Your Kryten 4000 series mechanoid...' without going crazy :|
Posted by Joey at November 2, 2003 11:38 AM
OK, Ian, u proved it. Goint!
Posted by Stephen R. Fletcher at November 2, 2003 07:14 PM
Well I have a second copy, bought from tesco. When I get home I will test it out. If it doesn't work I'll most likely top myself
Posted by Cappsy at November 3, 2003 04:05 PM
"I have no idea why we've gone to all this trouble when the article will only be useful for a week, but never mind."
Hello. I am in the future noting how useless this article has been for me. The date is 04/11/03, and the DVD was released yesterday, and some people have bought it and said things. Ian Symes reviewed it a day early. You only have a week more to wait, so I'll leave it at that.
PS - Many of you will be pissed off with how the menu behaves on certain machines, and in an action of idle defeat take its very nature and hurl it to the dust.
