Mirror/rorriM
Yes folks, for only the second time this year, there's a reason to by the Daily Mirror. Following on from last April's Series II promo, they're now doing this: a Series III promo. Hurrah!
On a Saturday in the next six weeks, they'll be printing a magical token, which will allow you to redeem your free DVD from any Woolworths or Big W store. The disc will feature The Last Day, as well as some deleted scenes and out-takes (presumably only those corresponding to the episode in question). The Last Day may seem like an odd choice, when you consider the fact that the first three episodes of the series are considered three of the best ever, but the episode is very accessible to new viewers. There's not a great deal of complicated sci-fi, and very little prior knowledge of the characters is required. Plus, there's a long sequence of five people getting pissed and talking shite.
The other titles in the, ahem, We Love Telly! promotion are The Office, Eastenders, Porridge, Open All Hours, Absolutely Fabulous and I'm Alan Partridge. There's also a special sleeve, in which to store the discs. That's sure to be good.
Oh, and we just have to point out the huge error in yesterday's Mirror. To advertise the disc, they showed a picture of Kryten (in his gold suit, Series VIII) with the 'quote': "Download my diodes and call me Frank!". The Daily Mirror in massive inaccuracy shock.

I'm suprised 'Polymorph' isn't the episode they're showing on the disc. These people obviously don't know much about the show.

It's normally 'Backwards' that gets dragged out for these sorts of promotions - maybe they just fancied a change?!
This is as good a place as any to point out that I'm still dumbstruck as to how Polymorph managed to get classified as a PG.
There I finishid' I'm gowing.

I think The Last Day drags down the standard of series III, to be honest. All that breaking bricks with his genitals section smacks of series VII and VIII to me.

I have to disagree with you on that comment on 'The Last Day', PS. I thought it was great how the Dwarfers wanted to give Kryten a good time, and then on the morning after, Kryten says how he actually lived for the first time and he wanted more! Great episode with some great moments, I'd say :-D.

Stephen, don't give me all that Star Trek crap; it's too early in the morning.

I've never actually watched Star Trek, Ian!

I suspect that 'The Last Day' was chosen because it's the least science-fictiony episode in III (with the possible exception of Marooned - by that doesn't involve Kryten and Cat properly, unlike TLD) - and they want to tempt a wide audience to buy the DVD...
I've got a soft spot for the episode - it's got a very specific, quite relaxed feel to it (apart from the last 2 mins) which I enjoy. And I don't care whether it's a cheap gag or not - Huzden's penis antics amuse me greatly.

I really like The Last Day - it has a different feel to it than the rest of the series, quite special in its own way, really. Similar in style to a series 5-style episode, now I think about it. All that character exploration and low-light battles with the villain is distinctly series 5-ish to me.

Perceptiveness, there.

Ah, is that out now? Lovely. I'll have to buy something from HMV tomorow.

Hmm. I've just realised that my comments on why they chose TLD was actually in Ian's article. Twat.
Ah well, might as well use this post for one of my favourite bits. "Goodness me! It's Marylin Monroe!"

There's a line from Hudzen which is my favourite - "It's dying time!", the way he says is brilliant!
