Movie Mumblings

We're all aware that the filming of The Movie has been pushed back to May 2004. Now, Ain't It Cool News have found themselves a scapegoat - Steve Bracks, the Premier of Victoria. In their latest article, they state:

The first of our many scoopers is a crewperson who lives on the continent of ******* (blacked out to protect identity). So he lives in Sydney and tells AICN-D that he was all set to go on the RED DWARF movie, until it got cancelled for what he says is about the sixth time in the past two years. The big delay at the moment is that Victorian Premier Steve Bracks (a confessed DWARF fan) wants the film to lens at the new studios in Melbourne. Problem is, theyre a long way off being built. A long way. So the news coming out of our scooper (who will now be known as White Giant) is that if RED DWARF films, it will probably be in Sydney. But thats a big if, people.

We suggest you take the news with a pinch of this. Why would Red Dwarf Films agree to wait for half a year to use a studio, rather than use one that's available now? Then again, Ain't It Cool have been right in the past. I won't completely trust anything unless it comes from GNP. Our Rumour Tracker will be updated shortly.

Red Dwarf Films? Don't you mean Winchester Films? (Ha haa!)

Posted by S at October 20, 2003 02:26 PM

No. He means Red Dwarf Films. I think Winchester are to Red Dwarf Films, what the BBC are (were) to Grant Naylor Productions. Correct me if I'm wrong, John.

The talk thus far on delays seems to revolve around financial backing, who's to say backing/discounts etc are not linked to the afore mentioned Premier and/or Studio !..

Where did I read that someone could not bring movie news until next month ?...One thing that has been breifly mooted on the webboard regarding the 'May 2004' rumour is, Where does that leave Dimension Jump...Presumably all the Cast will be elsewhere !

Posted by Cpt-D at October 20, 2003 07:28 PM

Cappsy is right - Winchester Films are merely the distributor. Red Dwarf Films is the production company.

I think it was Charles Armitage who said he'd have news next month; it was in SFX. I don't know what to hope for re. Dimension Jump. Do I want to meet the cast again, or do I want The Movie to be filmed?

Posted by Ian Symes at October 20, 2003 08:40 PM

I'd have thought the latter

Posted by Drzymala at October 20, 2003 08:45 PM

Well, probably, yes. We'd still have Hattie and lots of behind-the-scenes types.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 20, 2003 09:15 PM

They should give Hattie a cameo as a supporting character - not doing so would be ignorant and inexcusable.

Posted by Darrell Jones at October 20, 2003 09:52 PM

Yes, I suppose it would be easier to move Dimension Jump than the Movie, Then again, The Movie has had more practise...Nice Idea to get Hattie involved...I think I would prefer the Movie somehow...

I suppose it depends what happens, it doesn't seem they're gonna kill the crew so she could always just be a crew member!?

Even better, she could be the main baddie :D

Posted by Drzymala at October 21, 2003 08:06 AM

Actually, I was just taking the piss as this site was so quick to denounce "Winchester Films" as being fake. AICN rules! :-)

Posted by S at October 21, 2003 10:23 AM

Well done. What we actually said was that we didn't know whether it was fake or not, and would be waiting to see what GNP said before we believed anything. It's better to be a bit cynical than just take everything you read on the internet as gospel.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 21, 2003 11:18 AM

True, but it's better to be humble than to go round saying "Well, no matter what we said or implied, we weren't *actually, technically or literally* wrong!!!"

Posted by S at October 21, 2003 11:48 AM

Well it seems to me, S, that they deliberatly phrased the original comments about Winchester films to ensure that they would not be wrong either way.

Its you that seems to be avoiding the subject of you being wrong.

Posted by Cappsy at October 21, 2003 12:44 PM

So, it's a bad thing to cover all your bases, so that you don't report on things inaccurately? Right-o.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 21, 2003 12:46 PM

Yes, Symes. It appears you have a tit on your hands. Surely making sure your not going to be wrong is better than making wild statements and setting yourself up to look like a prick.

Posted by Cappsy at October 21, 2003 01:04 PM

I've got a tit in my hands? Excellent!

Posted by Ian Symes at October 21, 2003 01:17 PM

Who is this S anyway? An why are you feeling his tits?

Posted by Cappsy at October 21, 2003 01:20 PM

Firstly, I think it's great how you've brought this discussion down to the level of ten year-olds. Can I just say that Cappsy is a penis? Thanks!

Sure, it's good to cover your bases but not once did I see any deliberation or reasoning that the flyer might possibly be genuine. All you did was give a list of things that were, in your eyes, too wrong to be real.

See my previous post. (Paraphrasing aside) all I was doing was having a dig at how immature the follow up article sounds by going on about how you weren't actually wrong, even though you weren't actually right simply because you didn't have the balls to go with any of it.

(Note to self: This site does not take criticism too well.)

Posted by S at October 22, 2003 10:54 AM

Reply from Self: No, it doesn't. You try countering: "The movie will be good, and wait until it comes out before saying otherwise" with: "The movie will be shit, and wait until it comes out before saying otherwise" and see where you end up.

Fun for all the family.

I think it's reasonable to get a bit annoyed when someone makes an unfair allegation against you. I'd much rather read a site where the writers have the courage to admit when they're not sure of the facts, rather than stumble blindly on and look stupid later.

(Note to self: The above poster does not seem to understand the concept of honest reporting)

Posted by Tanya at October 22, 2003 03:44 PM

Bah. Now my last comment makes no sense.

Posted by Tanya at October 22, 2003 03:45 PM

Note to santa: Can I have a car and a big bag of money for Christmas?

Posted by Cappsy at October 22, 2003 05:19 PM

We're fine with critcism as long as it's justified. Reporting on rumours isn't a matter of 'having the balls', we just don't want to commit ourselves and wind up looking like fools. This site is based in truth, and we can't report things as true if there's a possibility that they aren't. Simple as that.

Note to Self: I think Mark Lamaar was a better team captain than you.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 22, 2003 08:27 PM

Can I just say, Having spent a Life time talking to my self, I find it hard talking to someone elses self however covering your own Arse by stating something may only be rumour makes perfect sense...If only the Worlds Press would use the same principal......
