The Cheapest RD III DVD Price on the Net!

The DVD.CO.UK logo Why did I decide on a black background for G&T? This looks rubbish.Ta to Daff on alt.tv.red-dwarf who has posted that you can buy the Series III DVD for a mere 12.99 from DVD.CO.UK, including P&P (to a UK address) and VAT - that's 7 off the RRP, and 2 cheaper than the Play.com price. (You can also get it for 15.99 from the Red Dwarf UK Shop, if you want to be nice.)

The fact you are able to get this DVD so cheaply is boggling, frankly. How the hell do DVD.CO.UK make any money from this? I suppose they just hope you'll stick with them for further purchases. I personally would pay 30 more for the DVD so GNP could have a huge budget for the extras - the fact I think this would explain why I'm not going into marketing.

Comments

That really is a baffling price. I'm still staying loyal to play.com though.

Has anyone ever got any DVDs early from dvd.co.uk?

Posted by Cappsy at October 27, 2003 01:25 AM

Baffling indeed!

Posted by Drzymala at October 27, 2003 07:51 AM

They're not bad, but I find with cheap sites that you trade off promptness for price. Still, when your purchase is not time-critical, they're great.

Posted by Tanya at October 27, 2003 01:38 PM

I've sent Play.com an extra tenner to deliver Ian's a couple of days late.

Posted by Nik at October 27, 2003 06:12 PM

So the Race is on then, I went with the rd.co on-line shop so time will tell...Series one off Play.com was a day late, but most who ordered it there seemed to get theirs on time...12.99...
Amazing...

i'll buy it whenever and probably watch it once, stick it in my dvd rack and not watch it again for about a year and a half :D

Posted by Drzymala at October 27, 2003 07:20 PM

Could somebody buy this for me please? I don't want to pay for it.

Posted by Piano Stool at October 27, 2003 07:59 PM

This DVD sounds like tis going to be worth 30. Let alone 15.

Posted by Cappsy at October 27, 2003 09:07 PM

I just watch the episodes with the cast commentary...over and over and over.

Sad, innit?

Posted by Joey at October 28, 2003 10:33 AM

Nope.

Posted by Cappsy at October 28, 2003 11:18 AM

What I am about to say is sad, however.

I have just checked play.com and DVD is at 'Packing' stage. Previously the DVDS have been sent out on the Wednesday and arrived on the Saturday. If it is sent out today there is a real chance I will get it on Friday! *cross fingers*

Posted by Cappsy at October 28, 2003 11:36 AM

Can't fathom this contemporary use of the word "sad" at all. You sound joyous.

Posted by Being as of the Youth of Today at October 28, 2003 01:35 PM

I wish I still had the rd drive that I had a few years ago :(

I mean to watch it nowadays, I just can't be bothered :( even if I did watch it on 2 on sunday!

Posted by Drzymala at October 28, 2003 05:30 PM

I used to love RD, but I think I wore down my interest in it by watching it so much during my mid-teens. I taped every episode during the '94 repeats, and watched them so many times that I learned every line and every pause and camera angle and would replay each fricking episode in my head while I was trying to sleep. Some people here seem to love it when that happens, but it just makes me nauseous. So when I bought the series I DVD I found it superfluous to my needs and took it back to the shop. The extras didn't lift it for me, and I realised I didn't enjoy the commentary (I found it tiresome actually) - I think it was just a dawning that it wasn't my kind of thing anymore.

Same happened with me and the Beatles - we fell out around the late nineties as I left my teens behind. Used to adore them, would get hold of bootlegs of rehearsals and stuff whenever possible, but recently I bought the Anthology on DVD and it left me under-awed.

I know you weren't exactly talking about going off Red Dwarf, so much as saying you can't be bothered to watch it when it's on, but never mind. And I'm still strangely drawn to wasting my time here, and that's something I can't explain. Must be the company I guess.

Okay, don't know why that happened twice. Might as well put in this little disclaimer, what do you think?

Posted by Same with Us at October 28, 2003 06:21 PM

Why all this talk of 'growing out of Red Dwarf' all of a sudden?!

Posted by Darrell Jones at October 28, 2003 07:26 PM

Play are currently packing mine as well. Christ al-fucking-mighty!

Posted by Ian Symes at October 28, 2003 08:47 PM

Well, funnily enough, only last year did I think I was growing out of Red Dwarf. After all, aside from movie rumours there's been a major Dwarf drought and I thought the time had come to move on.
Then I watched my Series 1 DVD. And all was right with the world again. I loved 'Dwarf more than ever. ;)

Posted by McGruder at October 28, 2003 10:30 PM

Red Dwarf has been my staple diet for TV for as long as I can remmeber watching TV. It, quite literally, IS the basis for my life today.

I have very close friends brought about from red Dwarf, I have a web site devoted to the subject and I never stop visiting sites like this to get my daily Dwarf fix.

Posted by Cappsy at October 28, 2003 10:48 PM

Update: My RDIII DVD was posted yesterday (Tuesday the 28th). Considering that the first two were always posted on the Wednesday and then recieved on the Saturday, there is a very real chance that I will get this one on Friday!!!

Anyone else the same as me?

Posted by Cappsy at October 29, 2003 04:39 PM

I can see what ur saying Same With Me, nowadays I just can't find the patience to watch it and I'll watch anything instead of RD. Maybe cos I've lived it so long, met the cast etc and now theres just nowt to inspire me any more.

Maybe the Movie will rekindle my interest

Posted by Drzymala at October 29, 2003 06:23 PM

Ian: I slipped Play another fiver to pretend they were packing yours.

Cappsy: You utter bastard.

Mine was posted today.

Posted by Nik at October 29, 2003 06:51 PM

Posted by Drzymala at October 29, 2003 08:05 PM

Posted by Darrell Jones at October 29, 2003 10:21 PM

Mine was posted today. I hate you, Cappsy.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 29, 2003 10:39 PM

Posted by Ian Symes at October 30, 2003 12:23 AM

Ian...*sniff* how long have you been banned for?

We need your usual long post on BTli on Saturday/Monday about the DVD :'(

Posted by Joey at October 30, 2003 08:33 AM

Posted by Cappsy at October 30, 2003 09:20 AM

They just can't accept his unique foul mouth :\

Posted by Drzymala at October 30, 2003 02:39 PM

Cunts.

Posted by John Hoare at October 30, 2003 07:40 PM

I only found out from Joey and Matt texting me this morning. I'll be ranting about it in my blog later, fans.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 30, 2003 08:33 PM

What's BTLi? It sounds shit.

Posted by Nik at October 30, 2003 09:57 PM

http://tordfc.proboards.com/index.cgi - there are some excellent people on there, but one or two awful ones. And the rules are daft.

Joey and/or Matt - can one of you post a link to my blog (http://ianiansymes.blogspot.com) on the forum, and also keep me up to date with anything people say about me? I love you both. Apart from Matt.

Posted by Ian Symes at October 30, 2003 09:59 PM

I'll host it, also a few ppl have said they won't miss ur G&T plugging, lol! :D

I love you too man :-*

Posted by Drzymala at October 30, 2003 11:31 PM

Superb blog, made me laugh muchly :D

Posted by Drzymala at October 30, 2003 11:35 PM

My G&T plugging consists of telling them about the big RD-related stories. Surely, that's what people want on a RD forum?

Posted by Ian Symes at October 30, 2003 11:35 PM

well, ur thread has been locked and I have complained that its to an external link and its up to people to view it.

I expect my complaint to fall on deaf ears and not be dealt with as you're not allowed any negative feedback as the board lives in a bubble of flowers and sugar plumb fairies

Posted by Drzymala at October 31, 2003 07:55 AM

i was told the 4 mods agreed, so it was 4 to 1 by slices, so by that recogning if i can get 4 ppl to complain it'll be 5 to 4 in my favour.

I was told that my view didn't make it right and then was black carded by slices, thus telling me in other words to not talk about it. I then said that he had no power to stop me talking about what I wanted, as his say so doesn't make it right!

If enough ppl complain then it will eb looked into, which in all fairness, is complete bollocks!

Posted by Drzymala at October 31, 2003 11:43 AM

Oh, man. It was all going so well.

Posted by Ian Symes at November 1, 2003 05:09 PM

Leelu did some proper modding so I didn't take it further. Karl reposted the link but pointed to your night out to see Leppard, same link, not locked!

Amazing ;D

Posted by Drzymala at November 1, 2003 05:18 PM

Posted by Joey at November 1, 2003 05:57 PM
