TOCBS launches
Oooooh! Lots of lovely stuff here, including some great pictures, and a particuarly nice biography (he worked on the Spitting Image pilot!). Hearing him enthusing about Massive Engines is a joy, too. And, after reading a few comments elsewhere which seemed to suggest Chris had some problems with the FUCKING EXCELLENT VI, it's interesting to note that on the news page he specifically singles it out as standing up well.
On the minus side: FLASH EEEW FLASH WAH FLASH. greenfishmedia should be shot, lack of capital letters and spaces and all. Seriously, I really can't stand navigating and reading Flash sites; they just annoy the piss out of me. Annoying unskippable flash intro, anyone? And that's just the start of the complaints... [Apart from the fact that you *can* link to individual pages. I'm just a stupid cunt who didn't notice. Still, MY MAIN POINT REMAINS.]
Meanwhile, Chris reiterates he knows nothing about movie shooting dates - although the silver lining in this case is his eagerness (in the FAQ, which I'd link to, but CAN'T BECAUSE FLASH IS SHIT) just "to do some new Red Dwarf product, whether it be a movie or a TV special". Excellent.
Many thanks to McGruder for this piece of news. Hi, Tiger. Rrrawww.

To be fair the design isn't all that bad. Much better than Rob's anyway.
Plus, it does seem you can link to individual pages.

Can you? How? Am I just being stupid?
I do prefer the design to Rob's, yes; but I just hate Flash sites. Apart from all the sensible accessibility stuff, I just really really hate the feel of them. Like Rob's site, though - good content.

Fuck! You're right! I'm a stupid cunt. I'm sure I checked, too...
Still don't like Flash sites though. Sorry.

Mmmmarvelous,Exxtrodinary etc..

Except when you press the 'back' button, it goes back to the initial animation. Which you can't skip. AGGGGHHHHHH.......!!!!

Also, it says that Brittas ended with a 1997 Christmas special. Not so; it ended with a normal episode. Note how A Prince Among Men is quickly glossed over.

I never saw Prince so I'm going to live out my life assuming it fantastic. The power of ignorance!

I thought that Brittas fact was wrong, but decided to trust Chris.
Moral: TRUST G&T OVER CHRIS BARRIE.

Nice to see he's got some input too - although no guestbook yet! WAH!
What is it with web boffin types and their obsession with FFlash? Whats wrong with good ol' traditional HTML?
Posted by McGruder at April 27, 2004 09:08 PM
They think they're being clever.
Another article I keep meaning to write: reviews of all the active RD sites. I kept putting it off because I have quite a lot of negative points (including some about G&T, mind you) and didn't want to offend anyone, but... fuck it.

He probably said "I want a site like Bobbys" and they did it ;)

Well, personally I think it'd be cruel to slag off anyone elses sites, not everyone can make a great site (including myself) and people try their best.
Though I'm sure it wouldn't be 'this site is shit, so don't think thats what I think I think you'd say :)
Posted by Drzymala at April 27, 2004 09:38 PM
No, it wouldn't be slagging them off. I'd be making helpful suggestions (such as why *not* to do sites in Flash) - and saying which bits I liked. Just an extended version of what I do in my news articles, really, only probably a bit nicer...

Well, it would be for Back In The Red.

True, I've thought it were wank from day 1 :D

And, you know, hopefully FACTUALLY CORRECT.

Go for it. Opinions from someone who's good at site design would be rather helpful.
Posted by Cappsy at April 27, 2004 09:55 PM
Dont bother doing mine, I ain't got any time to do it at the moment
Posted by Drzymala at April 27, 2004 10:04 PM
Excellent. I'll try and get round to it. I'm in the middle* of another article at the moment. I have to say that in some parts of G&T the HTML is diabolical; and you all know I'm not happy with the front page at all. So it wouldn't be someone sitting there getting pompous. I'll save that for Craig Charles and SFX bashing.
* thinking about maybe starting

I'm impressed with his enthusiasm of Red Dwarf, it's encouraging!
