Aww! Doesn't Chris look CUTE?

I don't want the alien deciphering kit. Even if I had enough money I wouldn't buy it. And if I was GIVEN it, it would probably end up on the skip.
Hope that helps.

Bugger off, then.

This is where I step in.

Like the difference between "male" and "female" though. Very subtle.

Do you know anyone with the money to pay for this stuff?
Why are they all so bloody expensive! They're only props when all's said and done.
Posted by Paul at February 9, 2004 01:04 PM
PLenty of people are prepared to spend their disposable income on props such as this. If I had the money I'd be buying stuff all the time but i'd rather spend my money on DVDs and the like.
Posted by Cappsy at February 9, 2004 02:16 PM
Indeed. If people are willing to pay for them at this price (and they clearly are - the props are being bought), who can blame the Prop Store for getting as much as they can for them?
Posted by John Hoare at February 9, 2004 06:39 PM
People are buying them, but very slowly, I can't blame the either for wanting maximum profit, but again I don't think they doing this to their full potential as some things seem very highly priced for what they are, take the Krytie-tv T-shirt for instance, not a great episode and yet they still want 345 for it! And some things that I would say are very rare from the early episodes go for a cheaper price, bargains can still be had, from other places on the interweb, than the propstore.....
Posted by Drumjay at February 9, 2004 08:29 PM
I agree that some things seem a bit weirdly priced - as you say, I'd price nearly all good S1+2 props higher than any piece of clothing from VIII. I'm sure you're right that they could charge more in that area.
It bemuses me how much the clothing goes for in general actually, although I'm sure they are right in pricing it at that level - they have a lot of experience when it comes to that. But I'd rather have a lovely prop that I could put on display properly, rather than a piece of clothing which I wouldn't wear cos it didn't fit and I wouldn't want to damage anyway and ended up stuck in a wardrobe. Clothing would be difficult to display properly, unlike something you can frame, or put on a table, or something.
Posted by John Hoare at February 9, 2004 08:43 PM
Drumjay, you've just spent hundreds of pounds of shooting scripts. You can't complain about pricing policies!
Posted by Ian Symes at February 9, 2004 09:46 PM
"shooting scripts"
*ears prick up*
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 9, 2004 10:53 PM
Oooops yes Ian i have but, i think they were worth every penny! looking back at an 1993 auction of Red Dwarf items at Bonhams, just 1 Polymorph script sold for 80 a non cast members script as well. And yes sorry to outbid you on those scripts but i have never seen all six together, especially all from the same season and i had to have them at all cost :)
Posted by Drumjay at February 10, 2004 07:34 PM
Why not flog photocopies until you make your money back?
I'm serious here. I at least would pay good money for photocopies of shooting scripts.
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 10, 2004 07:50 PM
I basically want to read the damn things is what I'm saying, and I'd be happy to pay a bundle for the pleasure.
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 10, 2004 07:54 PM
Here is a good idea - I force you to ring me up and read them down the phone, or else I arrange to have you killed.
Perhaps not "good", but...
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 10, 2004 07:58 PM
I concur. I would pay for a photocopy.
Posted by Cappsy at February 10, 2004 09:03 PM
I paid 30 for a photocopy of The Inquisitor. Thus I lose.
Posted by Ian Symes at February 10, 2004 09:39 PM
I know you paid for the scripts, but doesn't the copyright for the work still lie in the hands of G&N? In other words, isn't photocopying and selling those photocopies akin to (illegally) bootlegging anything else? Just wondering.
Posted by jesley carrion at February 11, 2004 11:00 AM
When all the shooting scripts are officially released in a book, then I'll give a fuck.
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 11, 2004 12:58 PM
Just imagine how lovely a series-by-series set of eight books would be, including copius footnotes, and what was written of scripts that were never completed or produced (see https://www.ganymede-titan.info/articles/losteps.php for details of some of those, although the article needs updating with some new info I've got), and earlier drafts...
I can't imagine it happening, though. Shame.
Posted by John Hoare at February 11, 2004 07:12 PM
Well if there is anything of interest in the scripts you will be the first to know, I'm very interested in the High and Low script, to see if it was altered any more apart from the title, I have a White Hole script as well with many alterations which were only used on the talking book tapes and not used in the final episode...

"Just imagine how lovely a series-by-series set of eight books would be, including copius footnotes, and what was written of scripts that were never completed or produced, and earlier drafts..."
Precisely what should have gone on the DVDs, there.
Posted by jesley carrion at February 12, 2004 01:52 PM
I'm hoping part of the reason why some script stuff *didn't* appear on the DVD is possible future release in book form. I'd much rather have it like that than on the DVDs. Although it'd have to be a fucking big book, or a series of them. Four books, each covering two series, perhaps...
Posted by John Hoare at February 26, 2004 04:48 PM
I want ONE BIG FUCKING BOOK. Something that would place the integrity of my book case in question.
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 05:05 PM
Two books would be best I think. Preferably ones that look like the League of Gentlemen book.
The poor sales of the series 8 scriptbook may be hindering the possibility of it ever happening, though.
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 26, 2004 05:22 PM
I would think awareness of the show (especially series IV to VI) will go up with the released of the DVD's. I would like to think they will take the risk with a complete script book...
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 05:34 PM
Well, they'll need something to do with their time after 2006...
Posted by John Hoare at February 26, 2004 05:37 PM
Exactly. I'm still waiting on a new Grant Red Dwarf book, too.
Does anyone else get the feeling that the money from the DVD sales will be used to remaster Series IV V and VI and then release the lot on DVD?
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 05:42 PM
No.
Posted by John Hoare at February 26, 2004 05:44 PM
Maybe i'm just a pessimist then.
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 06:00 PM
Bearing in mind even Doug Naylor is in two minds about the re-mastered eps...

Cuss myself. I forgot about those comments.
Anyway, it was just a feeling. A script book with some sort of Ellard input sounds very likely though. He'll have to do something or he's on the dole. Lets keep out fingers crossed. (about the book, not Andrew being on the dole)
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 06:06 PM
Maybe if we grumble loudly enough for the next couple of years, someone will take note. Gentlemen, start your whinging.
Posted by Ian Symes at February 26, 2004 08:23 PM
I'm on it...
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 08:36 PM
SCRIPTBOOKS WAH.
Posted by John Hoare at February 26, 2004 08:58 PM
That's lovely, John. Darrell, what do you think? Don't be shy.
Posted by Cappsy at February 26, 2004 09:02 PM
SHOOTING SCRIPTS AREN'T SHIT!
That can be our campaign slogan.
Posted by Darrell Jones at February 26, 2004 09:10 PM
I can print T-Shirt saying "Give Scripts a Chance"
And yes, I do realise that's shit but it's the best I can muster.
