Series IV DVD Review. Again.

It cannot have escaped your attention that the Series IV DVD is released on Monday. Indeed, most of us have got it already, although the usually excellent Play have let a few people down. We sympathise, brothers. To make up for the disappointment, why not read my Series IV DVD Review Addendum, which covers all the stuff that isn't in the original review.

Also, while I was in the DVD section, I thought I might as well update the Easter Eggs guide. Now, this has been here for a while, but a number of you may not have seen it, as John, bless his little interface leads, forgot to mention it the last time he updated. Oh well!

Changing the text size for even numbered releases! Can't they just admit they made a mistake for series 2?

Posted by Pete Martin at February 14, 2004 05:56 PM

Meh. This will be the first RD release I haven't bought on release day.

Oh well, it can wait more than that KYTV video could. Probably.

Did anyone notice Danny's little swear word that crept in on the easter egg?

Posted by Paul (TRD) at February 14, 2004 07:23 PM

Was it him reacting to the news of the White Hole out-take being bleeped by going "FAAAAAARK!" sort of distantly?

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 14, 2004 07:28 PM

Excellent Morris reference, Symes.

Also, full amkrs for beating me to the Review addendum. I hate you.

And yes, the text size thing is obviously an error. The problem is that it looks messy as each of the series numbers are of different lengths which gives it a very uneven look, thus making it SHIT.

Posted by Cappsy at February 14, 2004 08:40 PM

*marks, perhaps.

Posted by Cappsy at February 14, 2004 08:41 PM

Danny's little swear was "ah, shit!". He says it in Series VI, so I expect it's OK.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 14, 2004 11:11 PM

Any ideas as to what was cut in the commentary, when Danny says a very 'childish' thing about Craig's space mumps?

Posted by Joey at February 15, 2004 09:51 AM

That they look like tits, I imagine.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 15, 2004 12:58 PM

TITS

Posted by John Hoare at February 15, 2004 05:09 PM

I thought Danny was referring to the pubic hair-ish look of C.C's head.

Posted by ATH at February 15, 2004 05:54 PM

Maybe he compared the whole ensemble to tits surrounded by pubic hair.

Of course, if you don't have a DVD player, you could always bid on my eBay auction of death - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3387234815&category=4360&sspagename=STRK%3AMESSE%3AIT&rd=1 - although clearly everybody *has* a DVD player (and the DVDs) and nobody at all is interested in my stinky little video flogging.

I'll go away now and think about what I've done.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 16, 2004 01:28 AM

"The Backwards" and "The Timeslides".

Poo, I can't do sod all right.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 16, 2004 01:31 AM

Good picture, that. Camille wasn't a Valentines special, of course.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 16, 2004 01:51 AM

I know that, but it sort of *half* is, and as Valentine's Day has just gone I mentioned it for the sake of it, really.

It's not hard thinking of snappy ways to describe each episode, you know!

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 16, 2004 01:53 AM

I meant it *is* hard. I'm a DUNCE.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 16, 2004 01:53 AM

I am quite proud of insulting the DVD range in a wholly unfair way, yet somehow managing to pull it off.

I'm pretty certain that this won't get any bids, actually. My last auction (selling 2 DVDs and a video for 103) has used up all the good luck I'll ever have.

I AM THE FLOODPOSTING AVENGER.

Anyone else having trouble getting the "Easter Egg" easter egg to play? I'm pressing enter when I see the Skutter carrying the video tape but nothing is happening. I have tried it on two different DVD Players and still nothing *cry*!

Posted by Danny Pendleton at February 16, 2004 08:49 PM

Yes, I had trouble at first, but the 'Upstairs' DVD player worked it first time, On returning downstairs it worked there too....It may be my imagination but I noticed if you press enter when on 'Episodes' it didn't work, whereas when I pressed 'Play' instead it worked everytime....This may of course be coincidence and just down to timing..

Posted by Cpt-D at February 16, 2004 09:22 PM

Strange thing is, The word may be BEEPED...

Kryten's Mouth may be destored...

But the subtitles still say "Shit!" in one of the White Hole Smeg Ups! Whooops!

Posted by MJN SEIFER at February 18, 2004 04:09 PM

HA! That's genius!!!

Posted by Cappsy at February 18, 2004 05:54 PM

Still can't get the Easter Egg to work *crys*.

Can someone please tell me what title it is so I can jump straight to it?

Thanx

Posted by Danny Pendleton at February 19, 2004 06:05 PM

Well, I finally watched it a few days ago. It's "rather good". The Comic Relief egg is just brilliant.

I wonder whether the Elvis music isn't clean because it no longer exists, or because of rights?

Posted by John Hoare at February 26, 2004 05:43 PM

It can't be rights, it wouldn't make sense.

My guess is that it's on another tape which is either missing or too expensive in research costs to catalogue for that one track. Hopefully it's missing, otherwise I'll go off on one again.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 26, 2004 06:15 PM

I did wonder whether the idea about the rights made sense or not; I just thought there could be some kind of clause that meant it could be used in the episode, but not for any other reason, or something (and got away with it because they were allowed to take audio from the ep). Admittedly, it doesn't sound as likely as simply the tape being lost.

Anyway: they *really* should have kept in the close-up of Starbug's weapon in White Hole. The timing on that shot is just perfect.

The last review on this page: http://www.dvdretailshop.com/Red_Dwarf__Series_3_and_4_B0000WN104.html

"The episodes for both seasons are hilarious, the only clunkers being Marooned and Meltdown..."

Burn the heretic.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 27, 2004 10:09 PM

"lacks the visual of Winnie the Pooh being shot in front of the firing squad"

Missing the point, perhaps?? Oh, he's American. Of course.

And WB don't make the DVD's. Some people. Tsk.
