Filthy DVD Release
(Late) news nicked from a combination of Roobarb's DVD Forum and NOTBBC's Comedy Forum, here. Filthy, Rich and Catflap is getting a Region 2 DVD release on the 8th March from Playback. No word about extras as yet; we'd guess it's extremely unlikely to have any, but you never know.
If you're wondering why we're covering this, perhaps this crew list might help: Peter Wragg (Visual Effects Designer), Dona DiStefano (Assistant Floor Manager), Howard Burden (Costume Assistant), John Pomphrey (Technical Co-Ordinator), Ed Wooden (Videotape Editor), Tony Worthington (Sound Supervisor), Ed Bye (Film Director), Mel Bibby (Design)... and of course it was produced and directed by Paul Jackson. Not to mention Chris Barrie's fabulous performance in the second episode (Game Show) as the director of Oo-er, Sounds A Bit Rude - which is one of the funniest scenes in the entire series. "Close up on the pleb... I said close up on the pleb, not right up her nose, for God's sake! Ex-camera five, good luck at the job centre, my darling."
Oh, and from a wider perspective, it's one of the best sitcoms ever made, of course. And if you don't think that, you're a FUCKING CUNT.

By the way, I noted down the quotes for John, so if they're incorrect, it's me who's the twat.

That really is great news. I loved the series (love Rik & Ade), but foolishly didn't buy the tapes when they were available. They always seem to go for ridiculously high prices on eBay too.
I really must start looking for a part-time job.

The series is also getting a re-release on VHS, too...

Depending on whether there are going to be any worthwile extras on the DVDs, I may settle for the videos instead. Don't ask me why, but for some reason I still prefer VHS to DVD. (Not that I'd ever part with my Dwarf DVDs though - perish the thought).

No extras on the DVDs, but they *are* spread over two discs to max the quality, which is something the BBC just *wouldn't* do.
Universal use excellent-quality VHS stock, so the VHS re-release will be a fine purchase. I'm getting the DVD principally to save shelf space, although I'm a VHS-defender as well!

"I'm a VHS-defender as well!" - Yey! I am not alone then.

I wish you more luck with your VHS stance that my mate did with his 'Beta max' stance :)
I always seemed to have mixed feelings with VHS, whenever I went searching for a personal Video,I always seemed to come home with one for the kids instead..Somehow with DVD, this doesn't happen and I already own more DVD's than I have Videos of my own..Damned good collection of Walt Disney
Video's though..

I have three DVD players in my bedroom and yet I still bought more videos in 2003 than I did DVDs.
I think price is my main issue - I can't afford DVD after DVD, whereas with vids, they are often on sale. (And I am a cheapo anyway).
I rarely bother with special features too. It's only if I am really into something, such as Dwarf. But I'd have bought the DVDs anyway even if I didn't have a player.
As for the convenience of DVD - zoom and immediate jumping to scenes is great, but I usually watch something from start to finish anyway, so don't mind rewinding after.
My main gripe with DVD though is the scratch factor - I take great care with everything, but DVDs have scratches on them when I first open the sealed case. I've found that these minor scratches cause a wibbly wobbly image and little blips in sound.
Rant over.

What I hate is when I buy a video and it's got all sick in it and it gums up the machine and my little children cry! Why don't shops have to replace a faulty product by law, eh? WHY?
Write to your MP, brothers and sisters.

Alongside Filthy in the Playback release schedule is a box set of the first two series of Ronnie Corbett's 'Sorry!', which was written by Ian Davidson and Peter Vincent, who wrote a few later Brittas episodes.
I'm pretty chuffed, as it was I who suggested to them that they should release it! Quite a lot of pride in helping get a popular, previously-unreleased comedy show onto the shelves - I'm all rosy inside. And I don't even like Sorry! *that* much.

I awaited 8th March with great patience to buy this DVD, but alas, it was not released - But I'm sure I read somewhere that the DVD's release date has infact been put back to around June-ish.

Yep, waiting also.
Obviously crap information.

We did report on the delay. Now due June 8th.
Irritatingly, their .com address appears to be down, so all the links to their site don't work - go here to their .co.uk address instead.

The (rumoured) news on this:
The Playback branch of Universal are ceasing business, and Filthy is being permanently pulled. Unfortunately, if this it true, it means that nobody can re-release it until 2009.
Posted by Darrell Jones at May 25, 2004 01:15 PM
By Christ Al-fucking-mighty.
Posted by Ian Symes at May 25, 2004 01:19 PM
Important to note it is only a rumour, but the consequences mentioned above would cetainly be what would happen if Playback really are closing down.
Posted by Darrell Jones at May 25, 2004 01:26 PM
Looks like good news...the Universal Playback site is back up, and they have this page allr eady to go....

Having said that, I guess they could still fold/delay the release (again!). Why don't the bloody BBC release this stuff anyway??!
Posted by Curtis Walker at June 2, 2004 07:40 AM
Well, they've got three days...

According to play.com releasedate 26.07.04

Cheers! I've updated my site with the news, and ordered the DVD from Play. The discrepancy is odd, but if Play are listing it, the signs are encouraging.
