Series IV for £12.99

The Final IV DVD cover.Thomas Evans has got in touch with us with some excellent news - Blackstar currently have the (Region 2) IV DVD listed for a mere £12.99, including VAT and P&P. That beats Play, who currently have it for the RIDICULOUS PRICE of £14.99 all inclusive. You can work out the rest of the calculations for yourself. (If you want to be loyal, it's £15.99 from RDSUK.) Mind you, Play usually deliver the Dwarf DVDs the Saturday before the release - does anyone know if Blackstar do the same?

Only 12 days to go for you Region 1 people. And 25 for Region 2. And 48 for Region 4. It's their fault for being a nation of criminals and misogynists.

Comments

I pre-ordered Series I, II & III from BlackStar, as when you had to pay p&p they got the discs to you several days early.

I had to wait until the day for Series III because of the free postage, which is still good - but I'd rather pay a quid more and [hopefully] get it a couple of days before general release.

If that makes sense.

Smeg. I just ordered it from Cdwow. Thought I was being smart cos it's 13.99 through them.

Ah well.

Off topic just a little, did anyone see that Jeremy Clarkson documentary tonight (Thursday) about technology? There was a football match with some robotic dogs. One of them was called Baldrick. The other two were Kryten and Rimmer.

No? Oh okay, I'll bugger off then.

Posted by Peter Martin at January 22, 2004 09:13 PM

Bugger. I was gonna watch that as well. Still, it'll make interesting conversation tomorrow in my 6th form common room. (On my own in the corner again no doubt).

I saw that Peter. I realised what a complete twat I am when I found myself getting excited about it.

Posted by Cappsy at January 22, 2004 10:14 PM

Err, I got excited too, Shame they failed to even get started in the Footie though...It was a bloody good programme as well..

It's 12.99 from DVD.co.uk as well, got Series III from there for the same price, although it wasn't sent till the day of release. Might wait to see if the Aussie version is uncut, The Ace Rimmer Documentry has 9 seconds.

Jeremy Clarkson is a fantastic journalist.

BlackStar have now listed the RND easter egg as a DVD extra. Silly people - it's meant to be a surprise. I know that most of us already know of the egg but that's because we wanted to know and have looked at the BBFC entry. Tut tut tut.

Posted by Blake at January 31, 2004 02:15 PM

Yes but what is it? Hopefully i'll be able to hunt it down when I watch it tonight.

SMUG MODE!

CUNT.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 2, 2004 06:13 PM

I think I may have to avoid this website for a fortnight.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 2, 2004 06:35 PM

Cunt, indeed. I'm possibly the only American on this site, and I still don't have it.

Posted by Austin Ross at February 2, 2004 07:28 PM

Cappsy, what date was yours posted? I put my order in the moment it was available, and mine's presumably still somewhere over the Atlantic.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 2, 2004 07:51 PM

Mine was posted last wednesday(28th) and I got mine this morning (2nd).

I have given it the once over and plan to watch everything a few more times and have a review by saturday or sunday. I obviously realise that nobody will want to read it though. But I don;t care.

Would you all like to know a secret about Ace Rimmer: A life in Lame?

Posted by Cappsy at February 2, 2004 10:25 PM

Why not wait until I've done my review before doing yours?

And yes, I want to know about Ace Rimmer: A Life In Lame.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 2, 2004 10:46 PM

IT'S TRIPE!

And that's my well thought out and carefully considered opinion. Respect to Ellerd, he's a good bloke and all and he's done good stuff with the DVD. But he can't write Dwarf, it just didn't work. On top of that youc an tell that it was hastily cut and re-pasted together from it's original incarnation, it looks and feels sloppy with no structure.

And I hate to say this, I really do. But Hattie doesn't play Holly well at all. Not in the slightest.

I better stop now before I write out my whole review on here!

Posted by Cappsy at February 2, 2004 10:50 PM

I hate to say "I told you so". So I'll just whisper it instead.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 2, 2004 11:42 PM

That not being the point, of course. The point being that it's always best to wait until you've actually seen something before judging it.

For instance, I'll hold my judgement until I've actually seen the thing...

Posted by John Hoare at February 3, 2004 06:17 AM

Fair do's, I will say this though. 'Built to Last' is the most interesting and comprehensive production that has been done so far. It is utterly fantastic.

Posted by Cappsy at February 3, 2004 09:14 AM

"That not being the point, of course. The point being that it's always best to wait until you've actually seen something before judging it."

Oh come on, it was doomed from the outset.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 3, 2004 11:52 AM

How can you judge yet Darrell, you haven't see it. They're so many ways in which it could have been good. It cerianly wasn't doomed form the outset.

Posted by Cappsy at February 3, 2004 12:09 PM

1) The concept doesn't even work on paper.
2) It's written by Andrew Ellard, even though Doug Naylor and Hattie Hayridge (who are actual comedy writers) were there.
3) The Talkie Toaster stuff on the website is shockingly abysmal, and this is essentially no different.
4) It's as useful as a packet of brass crisps with a die-cast scale model of a bucket of beaks glued to the front.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 3, 2004 12:20 PM

1) "Lots of Ace Rimmer clips, surrounded by new links by Holly." Sounds alright to me.

2) Andrew Ellard is also a writer. Admittedly, not as prestigious as Doug and Hattie.

3) It's entirely unfair to prejudge something based on past form. Dark Ages was shite, for instance.

4) Define "useful". It doesn't tell us anything about the production, granted, but it was designed to be entertaining in its own right.

By all means, criticise it on Monday week, when you've seen it. I just consider it bad policy to make assumptions.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 3, 2004 12:45 PM

I've just had fun writing my review for it actually. It's a good job everything else on the disk is getting the highest praise. 'Built to Last' is a momument of utter superbness.

Posted by Cappsy at February 3, 2004 12:47 PM

On the positive side - 'Life in Lam' aside, the rest of it looks great. 'Can't Smeg Won't Smeg' can fuck off though, although I suppose it's nicer to have it somewhere than not to, really.

Posted by Darrell Jones at February 3, 2004 01:02 PM

I didn't mind that. The scripted bits are awful, but the actual cooking is rather amusing.

Posted by Ian Symes at February 3, 2004 01:19 PM

The best deleted scenes thus far, too.
