It's just a box with Series I-IV in it!

The Red Dwarf Zone is back. Kicking bottom, or what? They've spotted this intriguing Amazon listing for a Red Dwarf I-IV DVD Boxset, set for release on the 20th September this year.

With a RRP of 54.99, you might as well buy them seperately, to be honest, especially with the first two turning up dirt cheap all over the place. Unless it's a really nice box. I'd be a bit pissed off if there were some super extra special extras on there; I've already spent 60 on the bloody things. I don't think GNP would rip us off like that, however. You never know - it could be that these releases are episodes-only; as Cappsy notes, the BBC Shop entry says there's only four disc. But judging by the price tag, and indeed the list of IV extras, that's surely a mistake.

Presumably, then, there'll be a Series V-VIII set in mid-to-late 2006. Then a big Series I-VIII one? Who knows. They'll be too busy on the movie DVD then, anyway. Ahem.

Sort yer links out laddy-boy!

It does seem rather odd to release mid way box set like this. I don't like it one little bit.

Oh, and I hope there IS an extra special extras disk on that. There wont be, though.

Thankfully, I don't have any of the DVDs because Red Dwarf has seemed rubbish to me lately (even the old stuff), so if I change my mind I can buy the box of I-VIII. I hope that would include more extras, and I hope the cost would be low enough for me to feel I haven't paid for VII and VIII.

This was obviously going to happen, guys. Just like it was obvious the matrix sequels weren't worth buying individually (actually not worth buying at all but that's besides the point) because there was going to be a boxset. I'm actually holding back from buying the League of Gentlemen in anticipation of a boxset too.

The typo on Cappsy's URL is so spectacular, I think I'll leave it.

"Thankfully, I don't have any of the DVDs because Red Dwarf has seemed rubbish to me lately"

Yeah I go to fan sites about shows I don't anymore, too.

I know tThe box-set was inevitable but I expected it to be for the full 8 series. The BBC KNOW sad fucks like me will pay 50+ quid just for a new bit of coloured card board.

"The typo on Cappsy's URL is so spectacular, I think I'll leave it."

I took it an ironic statement and / or clever satires at something or other.

I agree you should keep it.

I was hoping it would lead to Ellard's secret files on you. Or something.

Posted by Ian Symes at May 24, 2004 11:28 PM

Imagine that. Somewhere, in the depth of his plush GNP office, Ellard has detailed files on all fan sites detailing all their transgressions and slurs against his name. On occasion he will idly flick through his files, with a glass of brady, laughing manically at our insignificance...

Or perhaps not.

"I hope that would include more extras"

That box-set has the bonus feature of not having the episode Kryten on the series 2 disc.

Perhaps they'd also like to repress the Discs for Red Dwarf I&II with pics rather than dull writing. And sort out the lettering on the spines. And stick the missing Smeg Ups back in. And...

Get over it

"Get over it"

Sorry but I won't be buying the boxset if it costs the same as the separate discs, unless there's a significant amount of extra footage to entice me into doing so. If it comes to the same or less than the individual series I-VI then I'll get it. I don't want series VII and VIII on my shelf otherwise. YOU get over it.

Posted by Interactive Menu Beholder at May 25, 2004 11:09 AM

Well this particular box set wont have series VII and VIII on it so don't get yer pants in a knot.

I think the VII and VIII DVD's will be just as valuable as the others, anyway. Just for the extras.

Posted by Cappsy at May 25, 2004 12:59 PM

Even if there's no new extras, I wonder if the discs themselves will be the same? Will there be an option of a text menu for Series I and II, for example?

I'm expecting a TOS article in the next couple of weeks.

Not me. I'm not interested in learning that the special effects were so great and how everything was so improved for those series and how funny it was and how it was great to have old Norm back. To be honest I'm dreading finding out that no thought whatsoever went into bringing Kochanski onboard as a regular character. They'll say "Kochanski was brought on board, and Chloe is really great" not that they considered how Dwarf would change with her involvement, making Lister not the last human alive anymore, providing him with not just any woman but the woman of his dreams.

"Cappsy, you've added nothing"

Yeah, yeah, I know.
