Other Fansites Do Some Fucking Work

For a programme that ended in 1999, we are doing well:

And expect an article on the scriptbooks from us later tonight. Nothing like a bit of competition to spur us into action, eh? G&T: VOTE THATCHER.

Excellent article Austin. I like your idea of one in depth episode review for each series. Us lot should win awards, y'know.

Maybe the 'Best Websites and Factoids' book is about actual red dwarf stars?

As for 'No Irish, No Niggers', I'm sure I remember reading aaaages ago that it was his 'upcoming autobiography'. It's either that or a poetry anthology anyway.

Oh, and Garbage World is absolutely excellent - it's worthy of an actual book. 'The Science and Fiction of Red Dwarf' or something. Seriously, it'd be brilliant.

Austin - I genuinely recommend you have a go at trying to pitch it as a book!

Posted by Darrell Jones at May 9, 2004 10:41 PM

I haven't actually thought of that (well, I suppose I view Garbage World as an online book), but I have no idea where or how I'd do such a thing. I doubt it would be possible at any rate, but the idea could have merit.

The Starbug BTL cover *is* the American version. I much prefer it to the British one; it's fucking gorgeous.

Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 11:46 PM

It is. It's even got nice (albeit tiny) drawings of at least three of the characters in the cockpit window, which is brilliant.

TWATTING WRITER'S BLOCK

Doesn't have to be perfect. Just get it written, then edit.

Posted by Austin Ross at May 10, 2004 01:10 AM

So I'm the only one who spotted the miscoloured letters on the American BTL cover, then?

Posted by Seb at May 10, 2004 04:15 PM

I prefer the UK version. Drifting dreamily through space on an inflatable bed in summery clothes, the sun beating down, in utter bliss. Perhaps a better concept than executed though. But the starbug one could be for anything really - it's pretty non-descript.

Posted by jesley carrion at May 10, 2004 04:37 PM

Not only that but the logo is utterly shite for both american covers. It looks like one I would draw as a 5 year old.

Posted by Cappsy at May 10, 2004 05:24 PM

"Craig Charles' Almanac of Total Knowledge" has a very similar structure to The Log ; lots of barely related chapters with a bit of humour derived. IMHO, it's actually a lot better than the Log which is just a cheap Dwarf cash-in.

'No Irish, No Niggers' WAS his autobiography, but I -sadly(?)- completely missed it.

In complete agreement about Paul Alexander's efforts. "Log no. 1996" is an underwritten piece of poo, while the one redeeming feature of "The Survival Guide" was that it included a bunch of photographs for Red Dwarf VII...which was rather exciting in November 1996.

You'll be pleased to know I sent my Making of Red Dwarf book (the Gunmen episode one), my two Programme Guides (the one after series VI and the one after series VII) AND Man in the Rubber Mask to a charity shop today! Begone stupid pointless books from my past of television programmes I don't like anymore!

Posted by Post-Haste at May 11, 2004 09:23 AM

Yeah, I guess owning those books was almost as pointless as posting on a fansite for a television programme you don't like anymore...

Trolling, there.

The Survival Guide had perhaps an even more tenuous connection to the Dwarf than The Log did (and The Log is crap, although my copy is signed by Every Fan's Favourite Cast Member). All that connected it were the series VII photos dotted around, and those "Profile" pages, of which there was one for each crew member. All the other pages had nothing to do with RD except for Space Corps references here and there.

Twelve days ago, I was reunited with a selection of Red Dwarf badges off of the front of some magazine what I had back in some 19190s(?) which made me wonder: had I the pins removed (or what) or did they predict that starscape even before the plastic moulding was made available to MB games, or strapped onto the carpet before Frankly Dosser and his crew of amiably placed men ramped harping on about slam-dunks and the curiosity of flanked horses, question mark.

The next question is about the scoop on the Red Dwarf model, why is it even smaller than the remastered CG version? Why compress it even further? Can we please go on and on about this still further, even when the toys have been released, and even when there have been no Red Dwarf properties built for a further ten years?

Finally, does Craig Charles have to always be such a tosser or what?

Yours many sincerely,
Prichard Wolfgang Amadanus(! - that's a joke based on the popular middle name Amadeus and the word Anus, folks, hope you spotted it) Mozart.

Yours,
Thanks.

Yours.

THIS IS NOT TROLLING SO FUCK OFF, KINDLY.

Posted by Prichard (not John Luc Prichard, and also it can't be put into the word "prick" easily so shuddup) at May 11, 2004 11:32 PM

It may not be trolling. It is a quite ridiculous waste of your own time.
