Robert Llewellyn In MirrorMask

A new fantasy film, written by Neil Gaiman? Surely that should be the angle for this story? Tish, pshaw, nonsense - it's the fact that Robert Llewellyn's in it that is the real news. You fools.

No release date has been set, as far as I'm aware, although it's likely to be later this year; here's the IMDB entry for the film. No word on which character Robert is yet. Synopsis:

MirrorMask centers on Helena, a 15 year old girl in a family of circus entertainers, who often wishes she could run off and join real life. After a fight with her parents about her future plans, her mother falls quite ill and Helena is convinced that it is all her fault. On the eve of her mother's major surgery, she dreams that she is in a strange world with two opposing queens, bizarre creatures, and masked inhabitants. All is not well in this new world - the white queen has fallen ill and can only be restored by the MirrorMask, and it's up to Helena to find it. But as her adventures continue, she begins to wonder whether she's in a dream, or something far more sinister.

Robert has said the following about it on his guestbook. Which I can't link to. Sigh:

"Mirrormask is an animated film which used actors to voice and define the facial movements, so I was recorded audio and visually doing a few very short speeches, had to keep my head very still (good old Llew.TV training handy there) and still express things. It's hard to know what it's about as I only saw the bit I was in, but it sounds pretty good."

He's slightly misleading here; the film is actually combined live-action/CG; here are a few interesting links. Current progress on the film, from Gaiman himself, is:

"Well, Mirrormask, the movie I'm doing with Dave McKean is progressing very well. Principal shooting has been completed and we are in post-production. Of course, with a project like Mirrormask, post-production is about 80% of the job."

Many thanks to Andrew Dowds and Rad for this news. Now, go off and find me who Robert is playing. Go on.

Sounds interesting.

The last exclamation mark needs fixing btw. ;)

FIXED.

Check again, the last exclamation mark is still a 1, you merely reduced the number of exclamation marks preceding it.

Ah, I fixed the quotes in the news story.

The 1 at the end of the exclamation marks is a "joke". See here.

Oh, I know all about making it look like you have accidentally let go off the shift key too early, and have seen you guys use that joke before, but it didn't seem to fit the feel of the news article as a joke so I thought it could be an actual mistake.

Posted by Adam Bailey at May 20, 2004 06:51 PM

I usually use it when I don't think one of my jokes makes the grade.

Hence it's use in 99% of my news stories.

There was a joke?

Posted by Adam Bailey at May 20, 2004 06:55 PM

Well, Robert always whines about his mask.

Therefore, he'll probably whine about Mirrormask.

...No, you're right. It wasn't a joke.

:)

No big deal anyway, I just wanted to complain because I saw you had only just posted the article and figured that you would still be on.

Posted by Adam Bailey at May 20, 2004 06:58 PM

This article should have been called "The Man In The MirrorMask", clearly.

Posted by Ian Symes at May 20, 2004 08:11 PM

Correct!

Posted by John Hoare at May 20, 2004 08:25 PM

In fact, I'm almost tempted to change it.

Do you think anyone will notice?

The film I'm looking forward to that will never be made is a Terry Gilliam project, written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett - Good Omens, of course. Unfortunately, neither Pratchett nor Gaiman believe it'll ever be made, although they would obviously like it to be.

The film I'm looking forward to that will never be made is Red Dwarf.

Posted by Ian Symes at May 20, 2004 09:16 PM

Oh, yes. I'd forgotten about that one.

Posted by Austin Ross at May 20, 2004 09:31 PM

The worst thing is, I was always *certain* it would be made; see the 'Delayed Reaction' article in the movie section. But then Doug's depressing interview came along...

Posted by John Hoare at May 20, 2004 09:32 PM

Do you want me to depress you even more?

Chiris barrie is currently holidaying in Greece. However, this could mean that he's relaxing with his family before he buggers off to Aus...but I doubt it.
