There's Something Wrong With This Microphone
It's gone now sir, it's OK to come out. Yes, after some worries that Garbage World was beating us in the geekiness stakes, comes this - The Red Dwarf Boom Guide. Dedicated to listing all stray boom appearances in the show, it's quite possibly the most stupid thing I've ever done. "Enjoy."
Contributions welcome. The first person to give one from VIII wins a big shag.

If only I had the time to do something like this.
Bravo sir!

This really is pushing the geekiness value way off the scale. Next it will be how many millimetres Rimmer's H moves between scenes.

Come on John, you get shagged. Ian doesn't. I'd have expected this from him
:D haha

I think it's pretty interesting ACTUALLY. I've never noticed a boom.

Ho ho. Really should have stuck around to act all offended.

Hey, I found another one last night.
In Better Than Life, look behind Tony Hawks when the Cat is licking him. You can see the boom shadow (or some other piece of equipment...I'm assuming it's a boom) on the wall.
Hope you enjoy. Give me credit or I'll eat you.

Phil, is there anyway to actually allow people to go 'Back' from your front page? You have no idea how fucking annoying that is.
Posted by Cappsy at May 6, 2004 08:22 AM
That's not Phil's fault; it's us. This new version of Movable Type does shitty redirects, for some reason, and we can't figure out how to turn it off. Ahem.
Posted by Ian Symes at May 6, 2004 01:39 PM
IT'S OUT OF CONTROL AND NO ONE CAN TURN IT OFF!!!!
Posted by Cappsy at May 6, 2004 03:55 PM
Bloody irritating, the redirect. This post gives a good summary of some other problems with it as well, as does this one, which also gives the reason *why* it was implemented.
There's a patch which gets rid of it which I'll implement once MT3 is out of beta. Although I hope the developers see sense and get rid of it entirely, or at least make it optional.

Yeah, see, it's not me. So don't go picking on your American fans. :-)
Actually, now that I've fessed up to being American, you'll probably do a lot more picking...
Posted by Phil at May 6, 2004 11:15 PM
Excellent, another American. For awhile I was the only one.
Posted by Austin Ross at May 6, 2004 11:29 PM
Well, we could only fit two in...
(I'm very sorry.)

Hello. Just saw this article. Cool Idea! ;) Thanx 4 the credit on the GOTA mistake. What's next - an article on those meddling crew members who want to be on TV?! ;)
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 03:54 AM
The worst thing is, I was planning exactly that...
Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 03:55 AM
hehe well I've noticed quite a few from Series I ;) Oh, and I've noticed a boom OPERATOR from VIII, in 'Only the Good...' when we see Rimmer and Lister in bed after getting their stomach's sucked, look at the screen behind Rimmer and he's there!
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:06 AM
*goes to check*
Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 04:07 AM
er... you can drop the shag if you like. I shall give you this free of charge. hehe ;)
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:09 AM
Very subtle, but I think you're right!
Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 04:12 AM
I think I can also see Phil's BTL one - just a shadow on the wall. Not sure if it's a boom or not - it could very well be, but it's difficult to say for certain.
Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 04:18 AM
lol Thanx. Back to subject - doesn't it sometimes annoy you seeing those bloody boom mics on A LOT of shows?!
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:24 AM
Oddly, I've never really noticed them much before, either in TV or film. I notice other weird things (like the camera panning off set briefly in Marooned, for instance), but I don't tend to look at the top of the screen much...
Posted by John Hoare at May 9, 2004 04:27 AM
Incase ur cofused I was writing that by remote when you posted that.
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:27 AM
I have wondering eyes, I've heard that wheneva a director actually DOES notice, they shout 'boom in shot!' and refilm the scene.
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:32 AM
Oh, and I've noticed Phil's one, when Lister drinks (and spills) his drink and places the glass on his head, the boom and pole casts a shadow behind him on the wall.
Posted by Stephen Fletcher at May 9, 2004 04:37 AM
And here's me a doign a pissy little book section when the real Kudos is in this line of work :P

Smileys. You can't beat them! :D :O :S =|:-)#
Posted by Cappsy at May 9, 2004 06:42 PM
I've been watching but I can't seem to find any other than BTL. I should watch them on my computer, I guess, but I have that drive set to region 2 for my precious League of Gentlemen collection.
And I was dumb enough to buy RD I in region 1, so now for consistancy's sake I need to buy all my damn RD dvds that way. GRRRRR
