V DVD Cover?
The Red Dwarf Zone. The V DVD Cover? Well, following the "discussions" about previous covers, I think I'll stick to the new G&T policy of simply reporting on them and leaving well alone. Apart from to add: NO, IT'S DEFINITELY NOT THE V COVER.
Meanwhile, Big Blake has spotted something rather unusual: A Kryten resin cast head.. Frankly, I don't think I've seen anything more disturbing than this in my entire life.

For fuck's sake! I deliberately made those vaguely acceptable ones of mine to save other people the effort!

There's clearly someone about doing a bit of attention seeking...

Excellent, they stole the images I used.

Have you attempted to send your covers to any online retailers yet, Darrell? I've been keeping an eye out for them.

I hate 'The Entire'. What, they think this is a feature? If they didn't give you the whole series you'd be pretty fucked off to say the least. Personally, I think the 'turquoise' colour of Series V will put people (non-Dwarfers) off buying it. Oh but wait, it's only Dwarfers that buy the DVDs anyway. And judging by the sales there's a healthy number of them around. Why can't the movie funders see this? Also, the BBC got good ratings for the repeats over Christmas.

The first three series rightly has "The Original Series" tag line at the bottom. This was needed, clearly. "The Entire Series" tag line is there for uniformity, I guess. It's not all that bad.
Also, why the hell would turquoise put off non Dwarfers? What a bizarre thing to say.

"The first three series rightly has "The Original Series" tag line at the bottom. This was needed, clearly."
Yeah, so people would actually buy them knowing full well they weren't Remastered crap.
However, I've always thought "The Original Second Series" sounded a bit daft. A contradiction in terms.
And, while we're on the subject, I'm not keen on calling the First series "Red Dwarf I". Okay, so it simplifies it...but it just sounds weird.

This is true. Originally, the numerals weren't used until Series III. But it just makes so much sense to apply them retrospectively.

At least we dont have the R1 "The Original Series One". It doesn't sound right at all.
Posted by Cappsy at June 1, 2004 01:06 PM
I always try and write Series 1, Series 2, Series III, etc. Although really I should write Series 1, Series 2, Red Dwarf III, etc.
What a cunt.

Well it was only in the Radio Times (and other guides?) that the series was labelled from 3 onwards. They were only numbered on screen for series VII and VIII.
How was series 1 labelled on the first-release video case? Because I know series 2 had "Red Dwarf II" on the front. Or does this not count because the numbering was retrospective? - I mean it *is* retrospective, but it still harks from the era of Red Dwarf Being Worthwhile, not just the DVD releases.

Actually should it not be "seasons" one and two?
Posted by jesley carrion at June 1, 2004 07:15 PM
It's seasons in America, i assume beacsue they have a new "season" of the show every year, rather than intermittantly. Usually.
However SERIES I and II of Red Dwarf we're released on Video after (or at least at the same time) III and IV were released, meaning the roman numbering on the original VHS for I and II was retrospective as they'd adopted it in Series III by that time.

If anyone here thinks they it is real....
1. Thoes white spots are marks of poorly done paseting in PAINT.
2. That Lister is from series 6 not 5!
Posted by MJN SEIFER at June 1, 2004 08:53 PM
Yes, it's pretty obvious that it is a fake. As Austin has pointed out, they've just butchered up his Region 1 mock up for the pictures.
Although that Lister picture IS cira Series V.
Posted by Cappsy at June 1, 2004 09:14 PM
Just to verify/correct/repeat what Cappsy said earlier...
The first series to be released on video was III in November 1991. II popped up relatively quickly in March 1992. Another short wait for IV in October/November 1992.
The Beeb finally got off their arses and released the "Never repeated Red Dwarf I" in Summer 1993. Red Dwarf I was consequently repeated in January/February 1994. All aubsequent series' were released in consecutive order.

No, that Lister costume is Series V, not VI.
Posted by Austin Ross at June 2, 2004 02:33 AM
And: my Region 1 cover was fairly butchered anyway, but that was partly a satire, and partly due to my incompetence. Probably more incompetence than satire, though.

None of this is quite as bad as the naming of the Crime Traveller DVDs "Crime Traveller" and "Crime Traveller II" when there was only one series!
Posted by jesley carrion at June 2, 2004 03:56 PM
No, or the blurb on the "My Family" DVD release promoting it as a "comedy".
Posted by Pete Martin at June 2, 2004 04:33 PM
Or that case of mistaken research labelling the RD crew as bumping into aliens along the way. TEH FOOLS!
Posted by Branch Leaplyde at June 3, 2004 11:48 AM
Or anyone who says that VII was SHOT ON FILM. I've seen at least two properly-published magazines that have made that mistake.
